So I spent this past Saturday at the monthly Scrap-In at Michaels where I teach paper crafting. After turning out over 20 cards for Operation Christmas Card for the troops, we moved onto Halloween! Michaels has some Paper Mache bases to work with right now like this Witches Hat (too small to wear) but great for decor!
These hats are inexpensive and so fun to put together! I started with the hat by running my black archival ink pad around the rim and brushed it over the pointed hat tip as well. Then I began tearing the cream, damask & spider web printed paper and adhered it to the hat with Scotch Quick Dry glue. After that, I took a break and shopped the store for my vision of a shabby chic, classy Witch Hat and found myself in the CHRISTMAS DECOR aisle!!
A few Halloween stems and a black feather boa from the kid crafts section and I was ready to put my hat together!
I am not a huge fan of the hot glue gun (just a personal preference) however, I like glue and needed to figure out something that wouldn’t take forever to dry but was tacky/sticky enough for all the add-ons. I ended up digging in our classroom stash and found Aleene’s Super Thick Tacky Glue (the pink label) and it worked great!
I added and added embellishments to cover paper seams and any kraft colored areas and the result is so great! I had people stopping me in the store and parking lot to look at this hat (grin). It’s a keeper!
